Jake Simpson’s life changed forever when he was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in December 2012, at just 19 years of age. It was detected in his spine, hip, ribs, collar bone, shoulder, skull and butt, and Jake was given a 25% chance of beating the disease. After a long and tough battle, Jake beat the odds and went into remission on 29th October 2013. This was nothing short of a miracle and Jake’s family and friends were looking forward to Jake living a “normal” life. This dream however came crashing down in January 2015 when Jake relapsed. As if facing cancer once wasn’t enough, Jake now had to face the physical strain, financial stress and emotional turmoil for a second time at the age of 21.
In November 2015 Jake received news that there was no longer anything that could be done from a treatment point of view. Despite the situation, Jake’s attitude towards life is inspirational, never letting anything faze him and always ensuring that those around him are looked after. In light of the recent news, Jake, his family (Adrian – dad, Karen – mum, Connor and Brodie – brothers) and one of his best friends Melissa Hollman created ‘The Bucket List’. This list consists of a bunch of amazing tasks and adventures that Jake is going to undertake with friends and family. Two key inclusions on the bucket list that speak volumes to Jake’s beautiful nature are “completing 100 good deeds” and “shaving Melissa’s head in 2016 to raise $10,000 for cancer research”. Unfortunately Jakey passed way on 17.02.2016, however his bucket list lives on through his family and friends. The remaining items will be completed in loving memory of Jake.
