Last night Harristown High School hosted Jake’s Ultimate Dance Party, with all funds going towards crossing off Jake’s bucket list item of raising $10,000 for cancer research. The night went off without a hitch and despite coinciding with a few events across Toowoomba, we managed to get roughly 70 supporters in the hall shaking it for a cure. Words cannot express how thankful we are for every single person who attended and I know you’ll agree that you had an absolute ball! The event raised $1203.75 which is an incredible effort. Combined with the donations received and funds already raised, we have just over $5,000 raised for cancer research! Watch Channel 7 News Monday night to see footage of the event and keep watching this space for more upcoming events such as the trivia night in March (date TBC) and the Shave for a Cure event on May 22nd. If you would like to donate towards the $10,000 target, please do so here or donate a prize for the raffle by contacting me here.
Thank you to everyone involved. The Dance Party could not have been such a success without the help of so many, particularly those who volunteered their time including:
- Nat Fraser who organised the instructors, posters, set up, venue and so many aspects of the night. You also jumped on stage as an instructor and host, and you always bring the positive energy with you everywhere you go. I cannot thank you enough Natty. So much love. Thank you to your beautiful family for helping as well.
- The U-Jam and zumba instructors – Wow. I know I speak on behalf of the entire crowd when I say you were all simply amazing and had unparalleled enthusiasm which made for a spectacular night. I haven’t had that much fun exercising EVER! It tested my fitness and coordination but the whole time I was smiling, laughing and enjoying myself! Please contact Nat Fraser for details about upcoming zumba classes around Toowoomba. I know I’ll be going again!
- Caspian Inskip and Will Johnston (aka Tech Crew) – thank you for your outstanding efforts! You volunteered your time to come early and set up all of the lights, speakers and technical gear and we are so grateful. You are both such a pleasure to work with and I’m glad you ventured out of the tech box to show us your glorious dance moves.
- Ken Green and Harristown State High School Staff – Thank you for donating the venue and your resources to make this event happen. You have been unbelievably supportive and the way that you all help fellow staff members out is a true representation of Hawk Spirit. I know both Nat and myself consider it a privilege to work at Harristown. I’d also like to say a huge thank you to Sally Wark and Cathy Hollman for help with set up and being the ever so beautiful door ladies, and the Harristown Drummers for your entertainment.
Thank you so much to the community for banding together and supporting such a wonderful cause. There’s no such thing as too much money for cancer research until we have a cure.
Have a lovely weekend.
