Today is exactly two weeks after Jake sadly passed away and it has been heartbreaking waking every morning knowing that we can no longer talk to or hug Jakey. We are not alone though and we are so grateful for the support that we have received.
I’d like to say a special thank you to Harristown State High School Staff and students, particularly the Year 12 cohort. As a past student and current teacher at the school, I have received constant support from all members of the Hawk Community. Events have been hosted at the school free of charge, the staff and students have attended and helped organise fundraisers and today I was completely overwhelmed when two beautiful students, Tom Lister and Caspian Inskip, surprised me on assembly with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, a certificate of appreciation and a huge $538.15 as a donation towards the Shave For a Cure efforts. I was unaware, but a few weeks ago, a very special student voiced his want to help achieve the $10,000 cancer research target. What started as a wonderful thought was soon taken on as a personal project by some of the Gold Leaders, which then extended to the Year 12 cohort and also the staff members of Harristown. These students embody Hawk Spirit and spent hours of their own time liaising with peers and teachers to raise the funds and write a touching speech about Jake’s bucket list and my role, which they presented beautifully on assembly today. Words cannot express how proud I am of these students for their selflessness, generosity and kindness. I am so proud to call myself a Hawk and I am forever grateful to the Hawk Community. It is these moments that I will remember forever.
To all those involved, thank you again for everything! Your contribution has helped bring the total amount raised to approximately $9,400. We are almost there and we could never have done this without your help.
